Energy Estate Digital Announces Tasmania Data Center Hubs And Digital Infrastructure Plans

8th December 2025

  • Landing points for new subsea data cables will connect Tasmania with key global markets including California, Japan and India

  • Fully aligned with Australian National AI Plan announced last week

  • New data centers will be located in strategically located energy and infrastructure precincts in Tasmania developed by Energy Estate and its partners

  • MOU signed with H2U Group for co-development of renewable energy supply and common user infrastructure supporting first data center hub in Bell Bay precinct

Energy Estate Digital is a digital infrastructure platform backed by Energy Estate, an Australian company that develops large scale energy and infrastructure projects and ecosystems in Australia, New Zealand, US and other markets globally.

Energy Estate Digital is developing state of the art subsea data cable networks between Australia and New Zealand and key global hubs including California, Japan and India.  These new networks are designed to support the growth of the AI economy and connect global hubs with new regions with access to the abundant land, energy and water resources. The EE Digital platform was launched in December 2024 and is aligned with the vision and goals of the Australian National AI Plan announced by the Federal Government last week.  Building sovereign AI capability is a key feature of the EE Digital platform with “golden shares” to be offered to councils and economic development agencies in the regions where the new cables will land.

The new cable landings in regions such as NW Tasmania will support the accelerated development of large scale energy and infrastructure precincts hosting AI factory/data center campuses and other energy intensive industries such as manufacturing, renewable fuels, electrification of transport and green metals.  Each precinct will be powered by renewable energy and storage projects developed by Energy Estate and/or our partners.

The proposed landing points in Tasmania for two new subsea data cables are as follows:

  • the CaliNewy cable (California to Australia) will land in Bell Bay;

  • the IndoMaris cable (Oman to India to Australia) will land close to Burnie.

These landing points in Tasmania are designed to complement the existing subsea cable connections between Victoria and Tasmania and the major additions to electricity transmission and fibre capacity which will be delivered through Marinus Link.

Today Energy Estate has signed a MOU with the H2U Group to co-develop energy and infrastructure precincts in Tasmania which will host data centers and other energy intensive industries with an initial focus on the Bell Bay port and wider industrial precinct.   In November 2025 the H2U Group announced the signing of a MOU with TasPorts to explore the development of a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production and export facility within the Bell Bay port precinct.

The Bell Bay port and wider industrial precinct has been identified by both the Tasmanian and Australian Federal Governments as a key location for industrial development, with several proponents currently advancing projects focused on hydrogen and green manufacturing.

Energy Estate and H2U Group will work together to develop a master plan for an industrial hub which leverages the benefits of the existing infrastructure in the Bell Bay region and the access to world class renewable energy resources.  The shared goal is investment in common infrastructure required to optimise the precinct’s strategic location and building on the industrial legacy, skilled workforce and regional readiness - as demonstrated by the ongoing local and State Government support for the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone.

The proposed digital infrastructure hub in Bell Bay will be the first of the 3 sites to be developed by Energy Estate in Northern Tasmania which reflects the scale of the opportunity and the level of interest in Tasmania as an emerging global hub for the AI economy.

Energy Estate is actively developing energy and infrastructure precincts to support the growth of the AI economy and host large scale data centers in other regions of Australia, New Zealand and California including the Hunter in NSW; Bass Coast and Portland in Victoria; Waikato, Manawatu and South Canterbury in New Zealand; and the Central Valley in California.
